At core, I’m a Motion Designer and a lifelong geek about animation. I just love making things move, and have been at it for 25 years. The last 15 were spent at Wieden and Kennedy where I started off as a Motion Designer and eventually worked my way up to proudly guide the team in a Motion Lead/Director role for 5 years.
I have animated a lot of things in a lot of different ways for a vast array of companies and projects, and have had a lot of fun doing it!
I’m mainly a 2D animator, but have flexed around in the 3D realm off and on and have captained my teams through a large number of bigger projects in that extra dimension as a Motion Lead.
That said, one of my greatest skills is that I’m very flexible in my capability set and my role has frequently flexed out from Motion Design into Graphic Design, Illustration, Character Animation, Web Animation, Front End Development, 3D Modeler, Manager, Producer, Art Director, Painter, Sculptor, Stop Motion Animator, Puppeteer, and more. I get that that falls into the Jack of All Trades conundrum, but honestly, it works well for me and the teams I work for. The 15 years at W+K is proof of that, and my adaptability was core to my success. I love to learn, and I love that everything I pick up in those other spaces helps enhance the work I do in Motion Design. Additionally, as a leader, it helps me better understand what the people working under me need in order to do their work well.
So, what encapsulates this weird mash up of skills that has kept me successfully rolling through and having fun on hundreds of projects for iconic companies across the spectrum?
I'm a maker. I make things. I love puzzling out how to get cool things made. I love making things myself, and I love working with teams of great people to help make bigger projects come to life.
There it is. If you've got a project in mind, and need a Motion Designer/Maker of Things, feel free to give me a shout and mayhaps we can build something cool together!
